Hong Kong: Macau Restaurant

The nice thing about tea restaurants – or cha chaan ten – in Hong Kong is that they are basically open all day. They can serve you your breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and something to satisfy your midnight munchies. Even though this location of Macau Restaurant is in a touristy area, it nevertheless serves a more-or-less authentic, everyman (and everywoman) Hong-Kong-style breakfast.  I could’ve gone to a whole host of other cha chaan tengs, but I chose this one because it at least differentiated itself by serving well-known Macanese food items along with typical HK-tea-restaurant fare. I’ve been … Continue reading Hong Kong: Macau Restaurant

Flavour Illusions: The Templeton

Let me start off by saying that my wife, son, and I had a solid meal at The Templeton today. The service was friendly and efficient; the premises were fairly clean; the prices were about average;  the food was typical of diner fare, but it was less salty and much less greasy. Even though they had lower-than-usual salt and oil components, the food was nonetheless enjoyable and flavorful. But the flavours I tasted in some of the items were unexpected. The ingredients did not taste like what I expected them to taste like. For example, the flavours of the rosemary … Continue reading Flavour Illusions: The Templeton

Yet Another Hyped-Up Triple-D Featured Place: The Red Wagon

From the online reviews I’ve read of the place, The Red Wagon seemed to be a triple-D featured restaurant that lived up to the hype. It seemed to be a place that was well regarded before triple-D; it also seemed to be a place that retained its popularity even after the buzz form Guy Fieri’s visit died down. I’ve known about The Red Wagon for quite a while now, but I have not visited primarily because I was weary of the potential wait I would have to endure. Another reason that has prevented me from visiting the restaurant was that … Continue reading Yet Another Hyped-Up Triple-D Featured Place: The Red Wagon

Not As Good As Guy Fieri Made It Out To Be, But Good Nonetheless

Jethro’s Fine Grub – This place is so popular that I knew I would visit it for a meal sooner or later. It turned out my visit to Jethro’s Fine Grub was later rather than sooner because of a few reasons. First, it was simply too far out-of-the-way from my house. Another reason was that I have become weary of Guy Fieri visited local restaurants. My two other experiences at restaurants featured on his show have all been mediocre, therefore I didn’t exactly have high expectations for this place. The potential long wait for a table also contributed to my … Continue reading Not As Good As Guy Fieri Made It Out To Be, But Good Nonetheless

Barcelona: Tapas 24

I’d say that over the past decade or so, tapas has become synonymous with Spanish cuisine. So I thought that I’d make my experience at one of the more highly regarded tapas bars in Barcelona as my first post on my trip to Spain. Tapas 24 is a much more casual sibling of Commerc 24 which, along with being awarded two Michelin stars, is considered by some to be one of the best and most innovative restaurants -small plates or otherwise- in Barcelona. Commerc 24 was actually one of the restaurants that I had made advance reservations for, … Continue reading Barcelona: Tapas 24
